Alliant Energy Foundation raised $515,000 to support programs that fight hunger and food insecurity in Iowa and Wisconsin. The amount is the largest on record in the company’s 17 years of hosting their annual Drive Out Hunger event.
In total, the event has raised over $5.9 million for hunger relief and provided over 20 million meals. Traditionally hosted during Hunger Action Month in September, Alliant Energy’s annual golf event and signature fundraiser connects Alliant Energy’s business partners across the country to programs that alleviate hunger.
Funds raised from Drive Out Hunger will be distributed to seven local food banks serving 105 counties where Alliant Energy provides service, including the Food Bank of Iowa, which serves Greene County through the Action Resource Center.
Throughout Hunger Action Month, Alliant Energy encouraged its employees to volunteer and support hunger and food insecurity programs. Many spent time at mobile food pantries and food packing events. Alliant Energy employees volunteered at mobile food pantries in Patch Grove, Wisconsin Rapids, Fond du Lac and Sheboygan, WI, as well as Centerville, IA. Employees also packed food for the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program in Cedar Rapids and Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin.
Hunger and housing is a key giving area for the Alliant Energy Foundation. Throughout the year, fundraising events, grants and donations, mobile food truck sponsorships and employee volunteers aid hunger relief initiatives for the communities Alliant Energy serves.
“The Alliant Energy Foundation is proud to support food assistance programs and our partners who work to fight hunger each and every day,” said Julie Bauer, executive director, Alliant Energy Foundation. “Employee volunteerism creates a direct impact on our neighbors and helps us carry out our mission to serve customers and build stronger communities.”
In addition to hunger and housing, the Alliant Energy Foundation supports programs that promote workforce readiness, environmental stewardship, community engagement, diversity, safety and well-being.
